Wir haben Derek Neal, Executive Producer von Extinction, zum Interview gebeten und konnten einige interessanten neue Details ans Tageslicht bringen.

Englisch Original Version

Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Derek:  My name is Derek Neal, and I’m the Executive Producer on Extinction.

So EXTINCTION is coming to Xbox One and Windows 10, right? How many people are involved in this project and how did it all get started?

Derek:  Yes, that’s right!  As far as how many people are on the team, it’s shifted over the course of development.  But, if you count all sources, probably around 50-60 people have worked on the game.  It was originally my brainchild, but a lot of people have contributed to what became the final direction.

Please tell us more about EXTINCTION, the game mechanics and all that crazy stuff.

Derek:  At its heart, Extinction is about real-time, skill-based combat against 150 monsters called the Ravenii.  You can run all over the them, pull yourself around them with your whip, break their armour and weapons, and dismember/decapitate them.  The game also includes smaller monsters, people to rescue, and cities to protect, but the whole experience is built around our desire to have meaningful combat on a titanic scale.

With Xbox One and Windows 10 as a family-unit – do you have plans for Play Anywhere with Cross-Buy and Cross-Play?

Derek:  No explicit support for these features is planned.

Will this game be Xbox One X Enhanced with 4K and HDR Support?

Derek:  Rather than putting our efforts into enhancement features like this, we chose to try and make sure the core game experience was as awesome as possible on all consoles.  There were a lot of technical challenges to resolve in implementing the original vision…for example, we have 150-foot tall monsters that you can run all over, in real time, while dismembering them.  We have enormous, fully destructible environments populated with people to save.  You can slow down time at will in order to execute otherwise impossible dodges and strikes.  And so on.

Any technical details like Resolution on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Pro and X?

Derek:  The game runs at both 720p or 1080p on all consoles.

The Xbox Game Pass will support 1st Party Titles from Microsoft on Day One. That will impact the Service and we are sure it will be huge success with Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3 and more. What do you think about a new distribution way like the Xbox Game Pass?

Derek:  As games get more expensive to develop, trying to figure out new methods of monetization and/or distribution that the community is also willing to accept is important.  I think the Xbox Game Pass will probably be quite successful, and if so it may open up some new business opportunities for developers to take advantage of, which can only be good for the industry.

Which game-modes are planned for release?

Derek:  The game is launching with a story-driven campaign, daily challenges, Extinction mode, Trials, and Skirmish Battle mode.  It’s a lot of content!

Can you tell us more about the weapons or extra abilities, customization for Avil?

Derek:  There is a skill tree that allows you to purchase upgrades to Avil.  These are mostly meaningful changes, such as improving the functions of existing abilities or unlocking new ones.  For example, he can enhance his radar, so he can see more of the battlefield; he can unlock the ability to control his fall speed; he can improve the effectiveness of his ability to slow down time; and so forth.

What are your post-game-launch plans?

Derek:  More information about post-launch content will be coming shortly.

Thank you for your time and all your answers. We can’t wait to play your game on Xbox One. Any last words to our readers?

Derek:  Extinction is hitting store shelves on April 10th, and we can’t wait for the public to get their hands on it.  The Ravenii are coming, and they don’t joke around!  If you’ve ever wanted to engage in really meaningful combat against giant monsters, or perhaps if you’ve been disappointed by all the quick time events and other abstractions most games offer, you’ll love what we’ve done with Extinction.  We also have some special pre-order deals available, so be sure to check those out if you’re interested.
